About arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Retail Technology

arenaflex is a global leader in retail innovation, delivering cutting‑edge technology solutions that empower millions of shoppers and merchants every day. Our mission is to harness the power of data to transform the retail experience, making it more personalized, efficient, and sustainable. As part of the arenaflex family, you will join a diverse community of engineers, data scientists, product innovators, and business strategists who are passionate about shaping the next generation of retail ecosystems.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s hyper‑connected world, data is the lifeblood of every strategic decision. As a Remote Data Engineer – Data Ventures you will be at the heart of arenaflex’s data platform, designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines that power analytics, machine learning, and real‑time decision making across the organization. Your work will directly influence how millions of customers discover products, how merchants optimize inventory, and how arenaflex stays ahead of market trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Ingestion & Transformation: Consolidate data from heterogeneous sources, design scalable ETL/ELT workflows, and ensure data is cleansed, enriched, and ready for downstream consumption.
  • Pipeline Architecture: Build and maintain resilient data pipelines using modern cloud‑native technologies (GCP, Azure, AWS) and streaming platforms such as Kafka and Pub/Sub.
  • Data Modeling: Develop logical and physical data models, including star and snowflake schemas, data vault structures, and dimensional models that support analytical workloads.
  • Performance Optimization: Conduct root‑cause analysis, tune queries, and implement best practices to achieve sub‑second latency for high‑frequency data streams.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Partner with data scientists, product managers, and business analysts to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver actionable insights.
  • Code Quality & Testing: Write clean, maintainable code in Python, Scala, or Java; develop unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests; and enforce CI/CD pipelines using Git, Jenkins, or Cloud Build.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Produce comprehensive documentation, data dictionaries, and runbooks; mentor junior engineers and lead technical workshops.
  • Governance & Compliance: Implement data security, privacy, and governance frameworks in line with industry standards (GDPR, CCPA) and arenaflex’s internal policies.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, propose proof‑of‑concepts, and drive adoption of best‑in‑class data engineering practices.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 2+ years of professional experience building data pipelines and working with large‑scale data processing frameworks.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Scala, or Java) and strong object‑oriented design skills.
  • Hands‑on experience with distributed computing platforms such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Flink.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL technologies (MongoDB, Cassandra, Bigtable).
  • Familiarity with cloud services (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure) and data warehousing solutions (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake).
  • Experience with streaming technologies (Kafka, Pub/Sub, Kinesis) and real‑time data processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement data models that support analytical and operational workloads.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, or similar lakehouse architectures.
  • Knowledge of data orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Cloud Composer.
  • Exposure to BI platforms (Looker, Tableau, Power BI) and data visualization best practices.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, Cloud Deployment Manager).
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset, creativity, and the ability to work autonomously in a remote environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex data problems, identify root causes, and propose scalable solutions.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working effectively in cross‑functional, distributed teams.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with fast‑paced environments, shifting priorities, and evolving technology stacks.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to data quality, accuracy, and consistency across all pipelines.
  • Leadership Potential: Willingness to mentor peers, lead initiatives, and drive cultural change toward data‑driven decision making.
