With a legacy of more than a century in banking and a forward‑looking commitment to technology, arenaflex blends deep industry expertise with cutting‑edge machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cyber‑security practices. Our mission is to protect millions of consumers while delivering seamless, secure digital experiences. As a remote‑first employer, arenaflex empowers talent across the United States to work from anywhere, fostering a culture of flexibility, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s hyper‑connected world, cyber threats evolve at a breakneck pace. arenaflex’s Cyber ML/AI team is at the forefront of detecting anomalies, safeguarding consumer data, and strengthening the overall security posture. As a Remote Data Engineer on this team, you will design, build, and maintain data pipelines that ingest, transform, and analyze massive volumes of security‑related logs, transaction records, and user activity streams. Your work will directly influence how arenaflex identifies suspicious behavior, prevents fraud, and complies with stringent regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize scalable data warehouse schemas across multiple relational and NoSQL databases to support cyber‑security analytics.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, security analysts, and product owners to translate business requirements into robust data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Implement automated data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms to ensure the integrity of security‑focused datasets.
  • Analyze complex data governance challenges, propose pragmatic solutions, and document best practices for data handling, retention, and compliance.
  • Produce clear, actionable documentation and visualizations (PowerBI, Tableau, Splunk) that communicate findings to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Stay current with emerging cyber‑security threats, machine‑learning techniques, and industry regulations to continuously improve data‑driven detection capabilities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing through code reviews, brown‑bag sessions, and internal tech talks.
  • Participate in cross‑functional agile ceremonies, providing estimates, status updates, and risk assessments for data‑related deliverables.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional data engineering experience, demonstrated through work history, internships, military service, or relevant projects.
  • Proficiency in Python (or Java/C#) for building data pipelines, scripting, and automation.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and experience with schema design for large‑scale data warehouses.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage priorities, and meet deadlines without direct supervision.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred (Desired) Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of data analysis experience within the financial services sector, preferably focused on security or fraud detection.
  • Exposure to cyber‑security concepts such as threat modeling, log analysis, and anomaly detection.
  • Hands‑on experience with visualization tools like PowerBI, Tableau, or Splunk to create dashboards that surface security insights.
  • Experience building end‑to‑end data pipelines that ingest from diverse sources (databases, RESTful APIs, streaming platforms).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster).
  • Knowledge of data‑privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and how they impact data handling in a security context.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical mindset: Ability to dissect large, complex datasets and uncover hidden patterns that indicate security risks.
  • Problem‑solving: Comfortable tackling ambiguous challenges, researching solutions, and making data‑driven decisions.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal skills to convey technical concepts to business partners, senior leadership, and external auditors.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working effectively with cross‑functional teams, including security engineers, product managers, and compliance officers.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑moving environment where priorities shift based on emerging threats and regulatory changes.
  • Attention to detail: Commitment to data accuracy, security best practices, and meticulous documentation.

  • Continuous learning support through tuition reimbursement, scholarships for dependent children, and professional development budgets.
  • Employee discounts, wellness programs, and access to mental‑health resources.
