Editor Location: New York - Hybrid 2 days in-office, 3 days remote Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 Department: Content Reporting to: Editor, Los Angeles & Western USA Are you the go-to person for finding out what’s new or must-do in New York right now? We are seeking an excellent editor, writer and curator immersed in New York’s local culture who has strong experience in a digital media environment. The ideal candidate has a deep familiarity with New York’s events scene and local landmarks and is bursting with ideas on developing new stories and growing our audience. The New York Things To Do Editor will primarily focus on what’s exciting and new or tried and true in the city, as well as produce service-focused digital listicles and larger attractions-related features. The New York Things To Do Editor will curate the best of the region for our audience across all platforms—including digital, social, email and live events at both Time Out Market New York locations. This is a multifaceted position focusing on writing and social media planning, tasked with the overall responsibility of engaging our audience across multiple verticals and channels, with an emphasis on digital storytelling. At Time Out, we broadly define a “thing to do” as anything that gets New Yorkers out and about and exploring their city; this can also often include art, music, film, and comedy events, though usually not theater or restaurants and bars, which are both covered by separate roles on staff.

Key Responsibilities

Write and curate Things To Do features for Time Out New York Work alongside the Time Out New York Food and Drink Editor to coordinate coverage of the city across verticals Write stories about major New York announcements, culture-related news, best-of lists and upcoming events Work with Time Out’s social and video team to shoot, coordinate and host videos and grow our reach and engagement across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube Publish relevant and comprehensive content across the site that can be shared on Time Out’s national U.S. social channels Work alongside the Time Out Market team to create content and activations around events, programming and all other facets of the Market online and via social media Maintain multiple events calendars across all verticals of Time Out New York, updating on a daily/weekly/monthly basis as needed Ensure Time Out New York’s core guides are updated in a timely manner Have your finger on the pulse of what’s happening in New York; use your professional contacts and social-media networks to be the first to identify the next big thing. Build and optimize a dedicated weekly newsletter for Time Out New York, highlighting the most enticing, relevant and timely content for our readers When requested, serve as a spokesperson/quotable expert on things to do in NYC Embrace Time Out’s digital-first, mobile-first philosophy—a strong background in digital production is absolutely essential to this role

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree Advanced English proficiency Five to six years of professional experience in the media industry, with a specific focus on digital content and production Excellent grasp and understanding of SEO best practices Ability to work with various tools of the trade, including content management systems and basic photo and video skills Experience with analytical tools, including Google Analytics, Looker and Marfeel On camera experience preferred About our culture At Time Out Group we believe in diversity and equal opportunity for all people.
