We are building our go to market plans and seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with NGOs and government organizations, with a focus on civic engagement and healthy democracy. PINION - Tinder for Politics meets WIkipedia for Public Opinion The Problem: Civic engagement is way too hard! We want to fix that. And postively impact the political-media landscape in the process. The Mission: Transform civic engagement! Create a platform where everyone can easily find, vote, and see results for pending legislation they care about, at local/state/national/global levels, including analytics. And that government customers rely on to improve their civic engagement game! The Vision: Make Pinion a global democracy platform that brings it all together so people anywhere can easily find and vote on the same legislation their elected representatives are voting on, then see results - so they feel like their voice is heard and their vote counts. Enable our users and customers to see living results and analytics for their self, organization, city, county, state, nation and planet. See how their friends voted, their community, and of course their elected representatives. PLUS...the candidates hoping to replace them at the next election! Imagine voting in your next election knowing which candidates has voted with you based on actual vote data on topics and legislation you care about rather than political spin. Pinion makes engaging with politics easy, engaging and enlightening for better democracy. Our tech team is building a new platform - web and mobile – to make our civic engagement with government and other organizations better. We are seeking professionals with both practical experience and interest in our mission. The Team: The Pinion team is a small group of motivated professionals who believe in the power of public opinion to improve civic engagement, democracy, and make our world better. We are looking for team players who are motivated, independent, friendly and professional. Our marketing team is small, currently 5-ish, but growing so we prefer someone who has experience supporting a small, "many hats" team where we all are willing to work on whatever needs attention. We are all remote with weekly team meetings to keep up on track and expect to work asynchronously. The Ideal Candidatewill have a proven track record of building and maintaining contacts with NGOs and government entities, with a focus on civic engagement and democracy. We are looking for someone who supports our mission, wants to take on a challenge and who can reliably contribute to help us meet development milestones and business objectives.   • Identify and research potential NGOs and government partners for collaboration and partnership opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relations with a comprehensive list of relevant NGOs and government entities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase partnerships and civic engagement within the NGO and government sectors.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in professional communications, building and maintaining contact lists.
  • 5 years experience supporting business development.
  • Experience serving as Business Development Lead with a small marketing team.
  • Demonstrated experience researching opportunities and building a pipeline.
  • Strong understanding of civic engagement and modern democracy challenges.
  • Proficient in using Hubspot and other marketing and sales tools (such as Microsoft Office, Slack, Google applications, LinkedIn and other social platforms).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience in product beta testing and launch is a plus.
  • Be flexible, able to work in a collaborative environment, and work independently or collaboratively.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and superior interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, conducting outreach to, and building relationships with client acquisition and program staff to garner information about opportunities and market company.

We are a true early stage start up (pre-money/pre-revenue) and all working for future equity only (no salaries yet) using the Slicing Pie methodology (www.slicingpie.com) to fairly allocate equity in the company. This role is intended to grow into a full-time (salary, benefits, equity) position in the future as we gain funding and customer revenues. A Good Fit People on our project are mostly part time - this is expected. That said, an ideal candidate should have the time and bandwidth required - likely fluctuating between 5 to 20 hours per week, depending on go to market activities. This role in particular will require a high level of responsiveness. You should be enthused about our mission, and comfortable with our early stage, “boot strapping” startup status.
